“Shorter darker days, cold rainy weather, unrealistic expectations, strained family relationships, demands of socializing, overeating, too much sugar, not enough sleep, lack of exercise, financial difficulties, commercialism, holiday crowds, and extra traffic–can all add to the malaise,” reveals Halyard.

This is a time when we are expected to be spending time with partners, family and friends, going to parties and gatherings–but for people recently out of a relationship, without families, or whose friends who are far away or preoccupied with their own families, it can be a lonely time.

“It is important to remember that you’re not alone…there are people all around you, and social and volunteer organizations that would love to have you. It’s a great time of the year to make new friends, try new activities, and create some new traditions…the point is to have joy in your life,” says Halyard.

It can also be stressful for people who lack money to buy presents for friends and family, but taking the time to make a homemade card or write a note of gratitude of your appreciation means so much more.

3. Limit desserts and breads.
4. Make salads a big part of your meal.
5. Drink lots of water while waiting for dinner to get ready, fills you up.
6. Eat and talk. It takes the focus off the food.
7. Limit veggies that are loaded with butter.

9. Keep your workout schedule.

During the holidays we lose ourselves in buying presents and decorating and enjoying holiday gatherings. Sometimes it is really easy to overlook our relationships in all the holiday season! Here are 5 ways to keep the romance alive during this very busy time of the year!

1. Make him/her feeling special a priority.

Put forth a little extra effort to make your sweetheart feel special by leaving a note on the mirror for them to find. Or hide it in the car or near his/her keys. Make it romantic, not a grocery list!

2. Spend 10.

Spend a minimum of 10 minutes daily just completely engaged in one another. Talk, touch, hug, kiss or just stare into one another’s eyes saying nothing. Connect for that time. Listen to how there day was, tell them how you missed them and thought about seeing them and spending this time.

3. Suprise.

Do something completely out of character for your sweetheart.
Ladies, meet your sweetheart for lunch and show up with a wig on and pretend to be someone else.
Men, meet her after work and take her to a secluded intimate resturante for a rendeverous and feed her.

4. Relaxation.
Giving your sweetie a massage is always a great way to get closer and spend quality time connecting. However, a couples massage works too!
Make the reservation.

5. Have champagne for no reason at all.

What a simple but romantic way to celebrate how special your relationship is just by chilling and sharing a bottle of champagne or sparkling juice. Toast to everything that is wonderful and fun and special about your love. It makes them feel so romantic, warm and fuzzy inside.
